Did you know that failing to return rental property such as a car rental could be considered a crime in South Carolina? Two scenarios where it is a crime in South Carolina are:
(1) if you willfully and fraudulently fail to return the property within seventy-two hours after the lease or rental agreement has expired; or
(2) you fraudulently secrete or appropriate the property to any use or purpose not within the due and lawful execution of the lease or rental agreement.
Next time you sign that lease for your car or rent that car at the airport on your next trip, make sure you know exactly when it is supposed to be returned to avoid any serious headaches with the law.
